Aftercare procedure

1. Remove wrap when you get home (try to not exceed 3 hours).

2. Wash under warm water (shower preferred) body wash/soap is not necessary as it may irritate the skin. Rub excess ink/blood from body.

3. Pat skin dry with a clean towel. Donʼt rub, thatʼs gonna hurt!

4. Leave tattooed area (if possible) out to dry, avoid covering with excessive clothing - tattoos heal faster and with less discomfort if open air can reach it.

5. Leave the tattoo for 24hrs, donʼt apply any tattoo balm, let it breathe. Itʼs ok to wrap in glad wrap (similarly to post tattoo wrap the artist applies in studio) If concerned about ink on your bedsheets/work requirements.

6. Begin moisturising with tattoo balm after 24 hours. Preferably after showers as the skin is at itʼs cleanest. Try to limit application to a maximum 2 times a day. Do not lather tattoo in balm, a small amount is all it needs. Excessive amounts will slow the healing process. Continue to use tattoo balm until the tattoo is fully healed.

7. Tattoos will scab up, get itchy and uncomfortable, they may even swell within first 48 hours depending on where the tattoo is on the body. This is normal, let the tattoo flake and heal at its own pace. Do not ever pick or scratch a healing tattoo.

8. Healing takes generally 10-14 days. But thereʼs nothing wrong with applying tattoo balm after its healed, itʼs fantastic for fresh tattoos and keeping tattoos bright.

9. Try to avoid excessive sweating and sun exposure during healing. No swimming! This includes the beach, pools, saunas, steam rooms until tattoo is completely healed. Tattoo balms (Dr. Pickles, Hustle Butter, Paw Paw ointment and Bepanthen) are all suitable, donʼt use moisturisers that contain perfumes or that may be harsh on skin, irritation or infection could occur.

If you’re unsure…Just ask!

Never be afraid to ask the question. If there’s anything that you’re unsure about just ask Hachi, she is a professional. It is her responsibility to make sure you leave the studio feeling confident and happy with not just your new tattoo but with the aftercare procedure and steps.

Never trust your friends that have “a home remedy” to heal a tattoo or something you discovered off the internet…always leave tattoo aftercare advice to the professionals. Remember, less is more. Don’t stress, let the body heal and do its thing, it’s remarkably good at healing naturally.
